The Story Behind My Art: Finding Colour in Everyday Chaos

I’ve always believed that colour has a kind of magic, it can lift your mood, change the energy of a space, and even help you feel more like you. But I didn’t always know I’d become an artist. In fact, Dilella Art was born from a very personal place: the desire to bring more colour, calm, and creativity into my own everyday chaos.

Why I Started Painting

Like many women in their 30s and 40s, life had become a whirlwind of responsibilities, to-do lists, and trying to keep up with a home that felt more functional than inspiring. I craved something of my own, a space where I could express myself freely and reconnect with beauty. Painting gave me that. It started as a quiet moment stolen from the noise… and slowly became a passion I couldn’t ignore.

My artwork is now an extension of that journey: messy, layered, feminine, joyful, and honest. Each piece reflects the idea that beauty can exist even when life doesn’t feel perfect, maybe especially then.

The Inspiration Behind My Underwater collection

Let me tell you about one of my recent pieces: “Tulips Rising”. This painting started on a day when everything felt flat, grey sky, grey mood. I poured out those feelings onto the canvas, layer by layer, until something began to emerge: bright Ruby's, delicate blush tones, and a burst of golden oranges. It reminded me that joy isn’t always loud, sometimes it’s a quiet decision to let light in.

The reflection above, they’re intentional. Despite being overwhelmed and under pressure the Tulips keep growing and their colours reflect back how beautiful that inner strength is. There’s always more going on beneath the surface, and I like my paintings to reflect that complexity, especially for women like us who are juggling a thousand things at once and still somehow making it look effortless.

Creating Art for Your Home

I create for women who want their homes to feel as vibrant and full of personality as they are. Whether you're styling a calm corner of your bedroom, a bright entryway, or a colourful gallery wall in your living room, I want my art to help you feel seen, inspired, and supported.

A lot of my customers tell me they’ve struggled to find art that feels feminine without being overly sweet, or colourful without being chaotic. That’s the balance I try to strike in every piece: soft yet bold, grounded yet expressive.

Why This Matters to Me

This isn’t just about selling prints or originals. It’s about helping women bring more of themselves into their space. I know how powerful it can be to walk into a room and feel like it reflects you — your energy, your confidence, your softness, your strength.

If my art can do that for even one person, then I’m doing what I was meant to do.

What’s Next?

Right now, I’m working on a new series inspired by moments of stillness and peace, because we don’t get enough of them, do we? If you want to see sneak peeks, hear more stories behind the art, or get early access to new releases, I’d love for you to join my email list or follow along on Instagram.

Thank you for being here, for reading this, and for supporting small artists like me. It truly means the world.
